Mass protests against vaccine mandates and lockdown measures have grown to incredible levels around the world. Not surprisingly, they have not been televised.
Tens of millions of people have been openly opposing these measures taken by governments. They are concerned that "emergency powers" governments have grasped will remain eternally, like they did after 9/11 when it comes to mass surveillance and other "national security" measures.
Despite a robust trove of science and evidence showing that lockdowns as well as mask and vaccine mandates are causing more harm than COVID itself, governments continue to create policy opposite to this science.
Furthermore, censorship has made it so most people do not know that this science exists. An open, consenting, and clear conversation has not been had with the public. Approximately 200 million posts have been removed or labelled as "false" or "misleading" on Facebook alone, and many scientists are being caught in the dragnet.
"As authoritarianism spreads, as emergency laws proliferate, as we sacrifice our rights, we also sacrifice our capability to arrest the slide into a less liberal and less free world. Do you truly believe that when the first wave, this second wave, the 16th wave of the coronavirus is a long forgotten memory, that these capabilities will not be kept?"
This in itself encourages people to stigmatize others, creating more division within society.
Should we give governments the power to restrict our movements, limit our freedoms, and invade our privacy? They do so under the guise of goodwill, but as we move through events like COVID it becomes quite clear that ulterior motives are at play.
Throughout history, "the greatest tyrannies are always perpetrated in the name of the noblest causes."
Thomas Paine
It's not all bleak as some feel. Events like COVID become a catalyst for people to "wake up" to parts of our reality they were once unaware of.
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element of democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of."
Edward Bernays. Propaganda 1928.
