Giant “Skeletons of Enormous Size” Discovered In New Mexico – New York Times Article From 1902
Fascinating evidence along with numerous stories from modern history shed light on multiple giant skeletons that have been discovered in the past.
There are several examples of physical evidence which exist to support the idea that giants once roamed the Earth. For example, stored in the vaults of the medical school at WITS University, Johannesburg, there is part of an upper leg bone with a hip joint that would have stood approximately 12 feet tall. It’s been there since the early 1960’s and was found by miners in Northern Namibia. It is one of the most precious and rare specimens available today that indicates the existence of giants in Southern Africa more than 40,000 years ago.
You can see it and learn more about that here from Professor Lee Berger, a world renowned paleoanthropologist who is known for his discovery of what is called Australopithecus sediba.
Apparently, in 1883 the Smithsonian, a United States government/military-led organization at the time, sent a team of archaeologists to South Charleston Mound. According to the official report, the team discovered several giant skeletons ranging from 7 to 9 feet tall. Some of them had a “compressed or flat-head type” which would resemble similar skeletal characteristics to those found in Egypt and South America.
There were numerous news articles printed about it and other findings in the area. Like the one below from 1907 in the Wheeling News, a daily newspaper at the time. During this era, stories of so-called giants in West Virginia were quite common. Many spoke of a race of giant prehistoric humans based on accounts of large skeletons found during multiple West Virginian mound excavations.
But all this has been debunked, many say. But I don’t believe it. Professor Berger went through a lot of difficulty with his discovery too, as you’ll learn from the video I linked earlier. He was criticized, just as the discoverers of the past were as well simply because these discoveries challenged existing thought paradigms.
Abraham Lincoln, in his notes on Niagara Falls in 1848, famously wrote about "the eyes of that species of extinct giants, whose bones fill the Mounds of America, have gazed on Niagara, as ours do now," reflecting on the long history of the falls and the presence of giant creatures in the past.
The list goes on and on, another example comes from an article published in the New York Times in 1902 that also deals with the subject.
The article goes on to describe two stones with “curious inscriptions” and underneath were the bones of a body that “could not have been less than 12 feet in length.” According to the NY Times article, “the men who opened the grave say that the forearm was 4 feet long and that in a well-preserved jaw, the lower teeth ranged from the size of a hickory nut to that of the largest walnut in size .”
You can access the full article here.
The chest of the body had a circumference of 7 feet. The bodies were first discovered by Luciana Quintana in his ranch.
“Quintana, who has uncovered many other burial places, expresses the opinion that perhaps thousands of skeletons of a race of giants long extinct will be found. This supposition is based on the traditions handed down from the early Spanish invasion that have detailed knowledge of the existence of a race of giants that inhabited the plains of what now is Eastern New Mexico. Indian legends and carvings also in the same section indicate the existence of such a race.”
Here’s another New York Times article about giant skeletons that were discovered in 1885. Going back further still, in 1774 settlers found what they called “The Giant Town,” which housed several gigantic skeletons, one being an eight-foot-tall male.
These are all recent modern examples that compliment stories written in the lore of various cultures throughout not only modern, but ancient history.
It’a fascinating to say the least, and perhaps in the future I’ll dive deeper into the subject. Hopefully I’ve provided a decent starting point for readers who are interested in doing their own research. I’m sure many of you reading this have looked into this far more than I have.
Yes, they were called Nephilim in the Bible (fallen angels that mated with human women) and produced unusually tall beings.
Co-incidentally , was reading about voyages to the Americas in the 1500's...transcripts of contemporary journals. I came across this passage "And to the end you may understand the truth, I will declare unto you all the shippes that have past through the said streights, since Magellan first found them, unto this present yeere of 1586, when I have once ended my discourse of Magellan his owne voyage. Nowe you are by the way to understande, that the North side of the enterance of these streights is plaine lande without any wood or trees: here are likewise some Indians though not many, yet are they very mightie men of bodie of ten or eleven foot high, and good bow-men, but no man-eaters, neither have they any victuals, but such as they get by hunting and fishing; they cover their bodies with the skinnes of beasts that they kill, to defend them from the colde: neither was there ever to this day any silver or golde found among them or in their countrey. "
What I found surprising was that they showed no fascination in their height but were just disappointed that they had no silver and gold!
