Considering the downsides of Ai & tech advancement under our current level of thinking, relating and consciousness. Yes, this is a look at the darker side of it all.
Hard to predict what will happen. I don't think the second industrial revolution that funneled most human lives into factories for pittance wages and grim living conditions provided much in the way of meaning and purpose. Humans are inherently creative; more time means an increase in imaginative pursuits and time to spend in nature. I think AI has more positives than negatives. We need to be aware of the risks and plan for them. I don't think there will be a few uber rich controlling 8 billion on the dole, it can't happen. There would be no fences strong enough to protect the few from the many when they are taunted and deprived. Didn't work in France or Russia.
Artificial intelligence—AI—isn't the same as the universal mind, just like brain intelligence isn't our spirit's mind. I think our positive or negative fears of AI will not differ from our fears during the Industrial Revolution concerning what machinery will do to us if we don't put boundaries on machine use.
Some machine creations saved us and made life easier for us, and some machinery destroyed us. It will not differ from AI. The choices to be made will be ours.
— Oh, and just like the cosmic mind didn't let us destroy ourselves during the Industrial Revolution, I doubt that the cosmic mind will let us destroy ourselves during the AI revolution.
The disruption caused by job loss could be absolutely staggering and it is already right on our doorstep. I really do hope somebody (other than the elites) is working on solutions because we will need them quick. What if, after all the notions of Skynet and AI dominion, the collapse of civilization all came down to the fact that the majority of us just all lose our jobs?
Time code: 4:30 Vance: "Accept that This entire thing is going to fall in on itself. And so the task of conservatives right now is to preserve as much as can be conserved and so when the inevitable collapse of the country comes ensure that conservatives can help --> build back <-- the country."
They're all in it together. Even "conservatives" are using the term "build back" better. In order to build back, you must first destroy, and they are destroying.

Mr. Harari, thinking about all this, puts it this way: “Utopia and dystopia depends on your values.” … The useless class he describes is uniquely vulnerable. “If a century ago you mounted a revolution against exploitation, you knew that when bad comes to worse, they can’t shoot all of us because they need us,” he said, citing army service and factory work.
Now it is becoming less clear why the ruling elite would not just kill the new useless class. “You’re totally expendable,” he told the audience. … “We don’t need you. But we are nice, so we’ll take care of you.” —Source (worth reading in full): https://archive.is/rWLoO
Good notes here TriTorch, as one 'hackable animal' to another - thanks for the links. Indeed they already ARE killing us - softly, no? Interesting how the thrust for the technocratic future got handed off (once discovered) from the heartless and hopelessly villainous Klaus Schwab to the equally unelected and unaccountable uber tech head and empathy free Elon Musk!!
Great television as they say in the White House!! Where dost thou go NOW, humanity??!!!:
"We have long lost sight of our true nature as fundamentally heart centered spiritual creatures of energy, functionally supported in life by the processor that is our brain. Artificial Intelligence profoundly exacerbates the long standing capture of culture by the Cartesian delusion that we are mind centered beings – cold, calculating data processors serviced by a simple pump in our chest, who traverse an exclusively physical Universe.
In all worlds AI, ‘Love’ can never be more than an empty word peeling off of a line of code."
Interestingly, so many in the freedom fields dislike Harari, yet after reading so much of his work, his take on things is very accurate, and he is almost always calling out elitists. I tend to think the freedom movements hatred for Harari comes from watching 15 second video clips where he says something that makes it seem like he is in support of bad ideas, when in reality, he is warning people about them.
if Harari wasn't tapped by Klaus Schwab to speak on these issues, I suspect more would see what he is actually trying to say.
As the NYT article points out, people are having a had time figuring out why elitists like his message when it goes against what they are trying to do. Perhaps elitists know that by letting him speak, they make it seem like they are thinking about these harmful outcomes, again, in reality, they know they can force whatever they want.
The always brilliant Cynthia Chung explains Harari best:
"These stark predictions by Harari were received {by WEF] almost as if he were a prophet, his visions of the future he was certain would come about, but he was unclear as to any detail concerning such a future, when it would come about, how it would come about and most importantly exactly how do we avoid such a fate? When Harari was questioned after his presentation and in another Q&A session at the same WEF meeting, all Harari could repeat was his own algorithm for a very general doomsday prophecy. To all other questions that pertained to specifics or mechanics of how such a dystopic future would play out, he would answer that he did not know.
This should strike any thinker as problematic. That is, are we supposed to listen to Harari as if he were a scholar or a prophet? If we are to take Harari as a scholar, that has developed insight into the subjects he discusses from the studies he has made, then it is a problem that he cannot discuss such specifics but rather entirely avoids them.
In fact, as we break down Harari's own algorithms that he uses to form his vision for such a dystopic future, we see them riddled with personal assumptions, judgements and conclusions masked as objective algorithms."
Harari has been tapped as the WEF's court intellectual, used to rationalize the proposals of the elites, surreptitiously rooted in their insatiable appetites for wealth and power - hungry ghosts all!! I only got halfway through Harari's first book "Sapiens" before realizing that so much of what he presents sounds like fact but are clearly presuppositions and personal speculations - written as though it were 'SCIENCE' in the minds of readers who cannot tell the difference. He's smart surely but ultimately lacking in a truly mindful perspective IMO.

"Scientific" American hasn't been scientific for years now.
