'Complex dialogue' - yes this is what is needed, to look at things from a deeper perspective...which people can't do when they are in a flight or fight state. What I see as I sit here in the UK is exactly what you suggest - people on social media in 'debate' projecting their fear onto an 'other', hooking on to symbols of wrongness/evil because they are frightened and need an explanation and they are not being helped with this - unless they are here of course! - because they watch biased media and they have lost the capacity to be present and also to think- both in their lives generally and especially in this high octane situation.
Please consider that none of this is as it seems....

Reds believe that black is the enemy, while black believes that red is the enemy, when the real enemy is the person who shook the jar. The same is true in society.
Men vs Women Black vs White Faith vs Science Youngs vs Old etc...
Before we fight each other, we must ask ourselves: Who rocked the jar?"

This policy also included the suppression of everything in opposition to the WISHES of the interests served.
You also say 'The human mind is binary' - yes...people are only using their minds to debate this, because they do not know how to use their bodies, it's not even about using your body...it's about BEING IN A BODY.
'most people emotionally connect their personal belief system to the belief system of their political party, and so then any attack on their party - legitimate or otherwise - is interpreted by their brain as an attack on themselves.' I think you have it there.
