As I read your thoughts, heartfelt thoughts Joe, I become more curious to step towards the center....not be on a lean towards 'left' or 'right'. I suppose we'd call that in alignment, maybe. I listened to what I feel was a fantastic open discussion just last night about othering and having the conversations that need to happen to merge the polarization occurring everywhere. Nat Hagen's is whom I'm speaking of, you may have heard of him. One of his guests Daniel Schmactenberger stated he is now more drawn to those that DO NOT hold his beliefs/values, and seek them out more often. We could learn so much more about ourselves and others if we were able to let go of our biases....I suppose we fear not belonging or being 'in' the in group/tribe ect. It this all just a survival mechanism left over in our brain....LOL!! Very fitting with your no brain video you've shared. here is the video with Nat Hagen's if it peeks your curiosity,https://youtu.be/MDtn0eEas7c
The conversation you listened to sounds important. I will make the time to check it out. I have not heard of Nate but have heard of Daniel and saw some of his content a couple of years ago. A memory just totally popped into my head, I recall that Daniel had reached out to us/some of our writers many years ago to inquire about discussion on creating a new world. Perhaps it might be cool to reconnect!
I'm in the process of writing my Embodied Sensemaking book as we speak, taking all my 15 years of exploring, doing, and witnessing and putting it into something I believe can be a good offering for our moment. It's a combo of my years of practice and work in embodiment and nervous system health as well as sensemaking. And how we must look at not only cognitive ways of exploring new ideas but also the physiological conditions that make that more possible. i.e. you mentioned fear of not belonging.. this is true! What if we could bring that to our awareness as we feel a tension about changing our minds, and then build the capacity to allow that fear to dissipate or clear via inner work? This is what the book will tackle :)
It's odd because as you mentioned, we need to be able to bridge the gap and converse, yet largely people are not making space for that. Then when they do, they are simply debating, which is also not really meeting each other it is simply arguing points and trying to defeat the other. There is a big call for debate, but debate is not the greatest practice for synthesis. Then again, a society built on worldviews of separation would value something like debate ;)
Anywho, thanks so much for reading and offering your thoughts and reflections!
re: NPCs, it seems that truly present and aware seekers/thinkers down through the ages arrive at the same basic conclusion about humanity:
"The majority of men... are not capable of thinking, but only of believing, and... are not accessible to reason, but only to authority."
- Arthur Schopenhauer
"It's tragic how few people ever 'possess their souls' before they die. 'Nothing is more rare in any man', says Emerson, 'than an act of his own.' It is quite true. Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their life is a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
- Oscar Wilde
" ... the greater part of the population is not very intelligent, dreads responsibility, and desires nothing better than to be told what to do. Provided the rulers do not interfere with its material comforts and its cherished beliefs, it is perfectly happy to let itself be ruled."
- Aldous Huxley
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of us are stupider than that."
lol it truly is one way to think about it. I always look at the argument of "the stupid masses" as more of a conditioning, culture, and opportunity thing.. vs it being inherent. Gives us the opportunity to rethink how we live, design and focus on development of people and children through various phases of life.
Love this. Thanks for sharing Joe. Something so many need to hear now. It seems like so many have lost touch with their compassionate hearts. Where is the heart in all of this? Where is the love? And where is the wisdom?
Thanks for reading brother! And yes, I think one of the biggest challenges we have is that loss of connection to our heart and selves.. another way of saying a loos of connection to our natural state. Our world reflects that.
haha, great video! surprised it hasn't been sent around more. i also appreciated your commentary afterwards. kind of felt like a 'someone needed to say it' moment. you're pointing to a fine line and i feel the message comes through.
This is a clever way to point out the unconsciousness.
"In one way, the same people who call people who don’t agree with them “NPCs” are NPCs themselves. I don’t personally believe anyone is an NPC but hey, I’m trying to make a point here."
Your words are subtle and helpful. Bringing up touchy subjects for reflection. Thank you!
Love it! Thanks, Joe.

.....or a favorite term coined by an old friend - "sorry assed masses"!
love this guy - he's a million of of'em!:

Thanks for the feedback. It did feel like a touchy subject, perhaps worth pointing out, perhaps not. We shall see. Went with my gut :)
