What "Make America Healthy Again" Is Missing...
I chat with one of my mentors, a nervous system expert and master somatic practitioner, about an important missing link in public health.
Set Your Pulse: Take a breath. Turn your attention to your body and release any tension. Breathe slowly into the area of your heart for 60 seconds, focusing on feeling a sense of ease. Stay connected to your body as you read. Click here to learn why we suggest this.
“Make America Healthy Again” is a political movement that aims to improve America’s food, fitness, water, air, medicine, and soil. RFK Jr. is the primary politician responsible for the movement, and it was birthed when he joined forces with Donald Trump.
It’s an exciting idea and something we must take action on and talk about. But there’s another piece to chronic health conditions that has been known about for about 3 decades now, yet it’s not understood by many people.
When it comes to the health challenges our world faces, starting SOMEWHERE is good. Whether we can have cleaner water, better soil, healthier food, better sleep, less toxins etc, all of this is good.
But I’m no newbie to the health sphere. I ran an incredibly large media platform for many years and one of the main topics we spoke about was health, alternative health, clean eating, exercise etc.
For years we provided studies, insight, clarity, and even how-to’s for eating and living healthier. While some great changes were seen in many of the emails and bits of feedback we’d receive, I can’t ignore the fact that many (if not most) people still struggled with a lot of digestive issues, energy issues, sleep issues and other chronic health conditions.
For many people, including myself, it was a mystery why good food and good habits weren’t solving most people’s physical conditions. How could doing ALL the right things still keep so many people unhealthy and struggling? Of course, our emotional health plays a role in this too, but even that has a root cause that’s often not discussed
It wasn’t until late 2019 that I started to understand more about autonomic dysregulation.
Simply put, it’s when our autonomic nervous system is doing the wrong things too often, and we lose our ability to be healthy and thrive.
What causes it? Mostly chronic stress and what is often called ‘trauma.’ Imagine the body is sorta ‘stuck’ with an excess amount of survival physiology turned on.
It’s my hunch that virtually all of us are experiencing some amount of autonomic dysregulation. We may not realize it because this has become so normal for all of us to feel, we think it’s just being human. In reality, it’s wreaking havoc on our health and thrivability.
Check out the conversation below where I converse with one of my mentors, Irene Lyon, who is an expert in the nervous system and new traumatology space.
As a side, nervous system dysregulation has become quite a trendy topic over the last couple of years. And with any trendy topic, that means there is going to be a big rise in ‘influencers’ talking about it even when they don’t quite know what they are saying.
All in all, be mindful and remember to think critically as you navigate this topic.
It's very difficult to relax if you're aware of the world. I think it's part of the deep state's psychological warfare, as well as the outcome of this war we are fighting against evil. The stakes are so high and the attacks so blatant. How can any thinking person relax? I have to lie down several times a day and consciously relax my muscles. Also exercise daily or there's no sleep.
Half done this convo, great so far! Been working on more of the practices and exercises you've put out so far and I'm enjoying the results. The 5 Days of You themes have helped also. Simple stuff but truly helps to make me feel less 'survival-y'. Thanks!
